The Rampart Garden and the  Jardin
                              2022

Into 2022 and April is pruning time and I started with some serious cutting back of the 3 Olive trees ( obviously not done for years) at the end of the garden. I then moved to the Bay tree next to the door. Tradition has it that every house in Provence should have one next to the entrance.

Tercia starts early with planting the seedlings which later get transferred to the jardin

April is asparagus time.  Rudolph delivered once again lots of the white variety of Asparagus freshly picked that morning. They went straight into a pie for lunch time, enjoyed in the garden post Bay Tree  pruning. The asparagus we planted  in the Jardin  in 2019 are progressing well and should be read for harvesting next year

June and we harvest our first cherries . This was despite a hard frost in May that threatened the cherry flowers. The commericial orchards had fires burning over night to try and save the crop

We also had a bumper harvest of spearmint

We  got Michel to cut back the stream banks but that left the stream itself congested so I donned my waders and cleared it along its lenght.

Our wine cellar and basement are part of the cliff on one side but open to the hill on the other. So we have a plan to open the East side up with a door to allow access to an ancient road. We can then store our farm implements and also the bikes.

In June we also started building our irrigation system for the potager. We  placed a water storage unit at the top of the Jardin which will be filled from the bassin.  There will be gravity fed pipes to drip feed the vegetables and fruit trees
